Iyanya unveils the official Music Video for ‘Up To Something’ featuring Don Jazzy & Dr.Sid

CEO Mavins record, Don Jazzy, has again proved his genius by revealing earlier today, that he had signed former Triple MG star, Iyanya, to his label. Speaking on the deal via a statement, the ace producer attributed it to Iyanya’s “versatility” saying: “From the first time I stepped into the studio with him, there was an instant chemistry and energy. He is an amazing talent and he has great musical versatility. “This is an exciting time for us and our fans have a lot of great music to look forward to. Iyanya brings his own unique style and sound to the Mavin Records family.”

The new deal came as a result of Iyanya, signing a management deal with Temple Management, a creative talent agency, whose sole aim is to aid the singer in launching a new phase in his career. Speaking on the new record deal, Iyanya said: “I am at a decision-making curve in my music career where I have to make the right professional and creative decisions. At this point, I realised the need to put in solid structures in place to move to the next level of my career. “I think I have found that professional and creative backbone in Mavin Records.” Is Signing for Mavin Records the right step for Iyanya ? Micheal Ajereh Collins, Nigerian music producer and artiste better known as Don Jazzy, has said that foreign artistes are scared to make music with him. He said this while speaking in a recent interview conducted by Boiler room in collaboration with British Council. “Most of these American artistes would call you, they believe you have something that they like, so they call you to come and try something out”, Don Jazzy said. “A bunch of people that I have tried to work with or have tried to work with me chicken out at the end of the day because they aren’t really ready for the music change; they want me to tweak it till it gets back to their sound. “I can give you your sound, but then, you called me for something and then I try to give to my sound and I want you to do your thing on top of it which would give the sound a wider recognition but they say they aren’t ready for this switch drastically. I think they are still scared.”

Things got very very interesting a few minutes ago at the 2015 Headies Awards when Olamide (and the whole YBNL crew) escorted Adekunle Gold on stage to collect his award for “Best Alternative Song”. Leading up to this heated moment; things were already quite tense as everyone anticipated the winner of the coveted “Next Rated Award”. The Next Rated Award comes with a lot of recognition (and the bonus of a brand Hyundai Car). While a lot of people expected Lil Kesh to win, the award went to Mavin artist Reekado Banks. So when Adekunle Gold came on stage with the whole YBNL crew, it was inevitable that the CEO Olamide would take the microphone to speak his mind. Olamide went OFF on the Headies saying the award should have gone to Lil Kesh as he had back to back hit songs all year round.

Olamide stated “Ko ni da fun Iya anybody” (A Yoruba expletive involving the mother of the recipient) and flipped off the whole hall before throwing his drink on stage and storming off with his crew. Just when we thought things had ended, Don Jazzy was given a Special Recognition award and in his speech he stated that he has never liked awards and the only reason he came for the show was to support his “children”. He also stated that he had told Reekado Banks and Korede Bello (who were both nominated for Next Rated) that he’d buy cars for them. Don Jazzy ended the night with a bombshell saying “Egbon Olamide, if you want the car come and collect it. God bless you”. He and the Mavin artists then stormed out of the venue.
This irked Olamide who went on his twitter page to rip his colleague apart, describing him as Don Agbaya Jazzy:
