The goal came after defender Godfrey Oboabona had fallen on the pitch and the Egyptians refused to play the ball out. “I think we played very well but we lost a lot of chances that we created that could have fetched us total victory in today’s match against Egypt,” Mikel told media. “Everybody is saying we lost the game in the last three minutes but all I can say is that fair play is fair play, it doesn’t matter, fair play is fair play. “Okay you can say we should have concentrated a little more, but Fair Play is Fair Play. This is cheating, that is all I can say. It happens in Egypt, it happens everywhere. It doesn’t matter how many minutes it is, you have to allow it. It is the referee that controls the game.

We had fixed our visit to coincide with the end of their tour before they played Arsenal. I contacted Obi Mikel, called him on several occasions with no reply; sent him an SMS with no reply, went to London where he plays in the same club with Victor Moses. I called Moses, the phone rang three times and he picked it up and I spoke with him. Moses came to the meeting but he (Mikel) didn’t come.” I left to Liverpool to meet the other player and I spent about six hours to go there and back but there was no response from Mikel until I returned here. Mourinho tips Mikel for Chelsea captaincy

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has earmarked John Obi Mikel as a likely replacement for John Terry as the Blues’ captain. The Super Eagles star has spent nine years with the Stamford Bridge lords since his controversial move from Norwegian side, Lyn in 2006 and had since won over 224 caps with four goals to his credit. With 34-year-old Terry’s career with the London side winding down, it means the English champions will have to select a new skipper and Mourinho feels Obi – the team’s second longest serving player may just be accorded with the honour of wearing the skipper’s armband.

“Mikel is, after John, the guy with most years of Chelsea,” Mourinho told Dailymail.co.uk “I think (Cesc) Fabregas has personality for a captain too. Eden is coming with big status now and was voted one of the top 10 players in Europe last year. “In my opinion he should be in the top three not in the top 10. Let’s see what is going to happen but we have these people. But let’s say John and Branislav are our captains and the others are ready to come,” he said. Mikel recently ended speculation over his Chelsea future by insisting he is happy at Stamford Bridge. The 28-year-old was linked with the likes of Al Ain and Fenerbahce during the transfer window but remained with the Blues despite the interest.

Mikel Obi to stay at Chelsea after Mourinho blocks his sale

Jose Mourinho has rejected several offers for midfielder John Obi Mikel, indicating the Nigerian still has a role to play at Chelsea next season. Mikel has spent nine seasons at Stamford Bridge since his transfer in 2006, however featured only 16 times last season as the Blues won the Premier League title. According to BBC Sport, Mourinho's €15million (£10.7m) valuation of the holding midfielder is the main stumbling block to any transfer.

The 'Special One' has turned down offers from Al Ain and Al Wahda in the UAE, with those clubs unwilling to meet the Portuguese manager's asking price for the 28-year-old. Several clubs in Turkey, including Fenerbahce, are also reported to be interested in Mikel, but they too baulked at Chelsea's transfer fee demands.
