Let the comical genius in you come out not the preacher - Charly Boy on Julius Agwu's show

Veteran Nigerian celebrity Charly Boy, 64, has shared his thoughts on comedian Julius Agwu's show 'Life As I See It' on February 14 at Transcorp Hilton. In an article written by the eccentric entertainer he expressed his opinion about Julius Agwu's comedy show, and said it felt like a Pentecostal service.
Charly Boy while admitting the show had it's high moments said that Julius Agwu turned the event into a church service and did not acknowledge people of different faiths came from the show. You can read his full article about the show below;

"Julius Agwu is my friend and a brother, one of the many comedians I have encouraged in their careers through the years. When I lost my buddy, my father, he was there to give me all the moral support I needed. I love Julius as much as some great Nigerian comedians, artistes and actors that have passed through the University of CharlyBoyism, who are now doing pretty well in their respective fields. I was at my guy’s LIFE AS I SEE IT show with my family at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja on February 14, 2016.

Mehnnnn, was I bored to tears!!! First of all, the show that was billed to start at 4pm didn’t start till around 8.30pm, and wouldn’t you expect that such a show already starting so late would compensate the audience by blowing off the roof with powerful rib-crackers back to back? For where! I wasn’t sure whether we were at a musical/comedy show or in a pentecostal revival ground. We had trickles of respite when other artistes did their thing but each time Julius came up, it was like he was on a mission to convert us sinners in the hall. He kept preaching, oblivious of many people’s disapproval, boredom and disgust for turning a comedy show into a sermonized gospel rant and chant. Kai! I understand what my brother must have gone through when he had to be flown abroad for his brain surgery. As he told me before the show started,“Charly, I almost died, I was actually being wheeled to the mortuary before God’s intervention”. I am sure all that incident must have been very traumatic for my dear friend who felt he had to give thanks to the Lord for keeping him alive. Yes o, I agree, we all need to constantly do that because without God’s grace and mercy, who for dey alive? So praise The Lord…Halleluyah!!!!

However, the fact remains that people came there for the sole purpose of laughter, not to be preached at, after-all, the Christians in the building would have gone to Church earlier that day, being a Sunday. Abi? We had people of different religions, denominations: Muslims, Crossbearers, Bhuddists, even Atheists in the hall that night, who didn’t come to worship but to be entertained. As I peered into some people’s faces, I could read their strong objection and disdain about how the night was turning out. Julius should have been sensitive, biko.

There were a few high points of the show though, when the likes of Bovi and Akpororo took control of the microphone. They were good! Very good. My dear brother, it is good to have a grateful heart when the Lord delivers one from the jaws of death, but a comedy show is not a revival and the people in the hall can’t all be Christians. There are many people also that the Lord has saved, giving thanks therefore, should be a personal thing with your Maker; don’t get it twisted with comedy. I felt ripped off.

God has also saved people like us and we are grateful for what He has done in our lives, but we don’t go round terrorising people with Bible verses and the word of God. And just in case you want to start your own church, all well and good for you but biko, don’t do it on the heels of people who have paid their hard earned money to watch a comedy show, either alone or with family and friends. My brother, I no yab you o, I just advice you as my person. Next time let the comical genius in you come out not the preacher."

In one particular picture they channel Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden.

Their daughter Dewy Oputa wrote a description for the photo album: –"For over 37years, they have been mirrors to each other. Looking at the following pictures one can understand the soulfulness of this Union. May the love that they exude expand our perception of what a soul mate really is. I have witnessed my grand parents holding hands till my grandfather ( Justice Oputa ) passed on. I have watched my parents Charles/Diane carry on as two inseparable buddies bound together by an unusual friendship, not hinged on attraction or sexuality. I pray that I too will eventually find a soul mate who will be my best friend."

Charly Boy Calls GEJ & GMB ‘Miserable Choices’ For Presidential Elections

Charly Boy said recently that Nigeria needs a ‘benevolent dictator’ and a lot of people took it to mean he was endorsing APC presidential candidate General Muhammadu Buhari (GMB). However, in this Facebook note, he stated GMB and PDP candidate,President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GEJ) are both ‘miserable choices’ for Nigerians. Here’s the essay, Since the past two weeks my phone has been ringing off the hook. My associates and friends are shocked at what was purported as a Muhammadu Buhari’s endorsement by The Brand, Charly Boy. Haba, who dash them? Looking at the campaign so far, I am so pained and ashamed of how low we have sunk. It’s no more about the issues that threaten the future of our youths and our country but the obnoxious, petty, childish mudslinging of the parties trying to outdo themselves. Kai! In the article that I personally posted on my Facebook, I talked about a benevolent dictator, one who would come and kick some ass of all the people responsible for our pitiful situation because quite frankly, we the followers are weak with fear and guilty of inaction.

 Even though I’m aware of Buhari’s antecedents, I don’t believe he can pull this off. Obviously I believe that age will lead him to compromise on many fronts and that’s not what is needed at this time, aside the fact that some wolves are in bed with him. Will he become the sheep? As for Goodluck, I know he is a jolly good fellow who really doesn’t want stress but has allowed himself to be surrounded by very funny characters who have no interest of the country at heart but their own bottomless pockets. Is Luck running out on him or this is another government magic in making? As for me Charly Boy, these are very miserable choices and for that reason for once in my life, out of deep frustration, I prefer to sit on the fence. It is called Sidon look. I no go lie, I tire. Hoping that the favour of God will see us through all this.

 My heart goes out to the suffering masses and the youths of this country, who have no dreams to dream anymore, no leaders to follow and no values to aspire to. The youths of this country are dying in the quicksand of hopelessness and frustration. The few good people left are finding it extremely difficult to hang on to the values they grew up with that defined their character, because this is a country where honesty is looked at as stupidity and integrity, as being mumu-rized. See how greed, selfishness and corruption have eaten up every sense of reason; every sense of responsibility. Many young people have been abandoned by fathers who are madly engaged in the losing battle of survival; many mothers have been pulled away from their natural hearts of compassion, family values and love in confusion. They wonder constantly, tempted by promises made by heartless and ruthless men drunk on blood money. Oh God, who will bail the cat? This is all a bad dream; I wish I could wake up! OhhhhNaija! It is hard to imagine the level of deception and power drunkenness within our government and leadership.

Round after round of unimaginable afflictions poured out on the people like vials from hell’s darkest parts. No compassion on the poor, suffering masses. Jesus! Where we dey go? Untold poverty from the south to the north, through the east to the west, even in this poverty, we stand disunited, why? What proof do we still need to ask questions about our destination and to start to remedy the mistakes we have made through our insane greed, as we sing, clap and dance for those riffraff’s responsible for this iniquity? God go punish dem. Kai! Naija, where nobody send anybody! Government chop alone, masses on their own. My God, I need to wake up from this nightmare that has held me paralyzed in my dream! What can take this pain away, what can sanitize our decayed minds, what can make it well for us again? Which way Naija? Someone, please say something before I craze…
