"Local Rappers" Olamide, Reminisce and Phyno are all Clowns - Mode 9

There still seems to be some discomfort between legendary rapper Modenine and some indigenous rappers in the country after some jibes were thrown at each in some tracks. Reminisce had featured Olamide and Phyno on his controversial hit single titled ‘Local Rappers,’ which part of its lyrics indicated that ‘punchlines don’t bring in the money anymore.’ It is believed that this song was an attack on Rapper, Modenine and MI, who rap more in English with the use of Punchlines. But Modenine, has laughed over this stating that the rappers were just clowning around. “It’s a lovely song, when I heard it I felt it was a satire meant to ruffle some feathers though but it cannot be directed at artistes who still use punchlines in their raps. “We all know that punchlines still and will forever bring in the money. Because if you check advertising, you will find out that the payoffs, the punchlines are always there and that brings a lot of money. Punchlines bring in the money. I like the song, but seriously, I know they were just clowning around,”he told Hiptv.

Modenine and T.R react to Reminisce #LocalRapper

Nigerian rappers Modenine and T.R have denied any anger over the lyrics of Reminisce’s new song, 'Local Rappers'. Reminisce had earlier this month released ‘Local rapper’ a second single off his soon to be released third album, Baba Hafusa. Local Rappers features fellow local lingua rappers Olamide and Phyno with lyrics saying word play and punch lines are no longer in demand; rather, rap in local language is the fans favourite. The song also pointed out how indigenous rappers are enjoying the good life, getting the shows ahead of hard core rappers.
The song, 'Local Rappers' had reportedly irked the pioneer rap acts, but new information claims they aren’t. According to the two rap acts, the song holds no ulterior meaning to them, revealing that Reminisce is a close colleague and friend. When asked about it Modenine reportedly said: “It’s false. Reminisce is my friend, we are even working on a song together. I’m not recording any song with Terry tha Rapman in reply to Local rapper. You heard it from the horses mouth.”
Terry tha Rapman also shared similar sentiments over the song, saying: “It’s not true. As a matter of fact, Reminisce is a close friend of Modenine and I and we understand how people will feel because of the lyrics of the song that it was directed at us, but trust me, it’s not. We are cool.”

I'm very disappointed at Nigeria’s Poor Hip Hop Culture - Mode Nine

Mode Nine is popularly regarded as one of the pioneer and legendary rap acts in Nigeria, but he’s disappointed that the brand doesn’t sell. “Music has got me fame but not fortune. The kind of song I do is hip-hop in its pure essence and the truth is that most Nigerians do not like it,” Mode Nine said in an interview with Punch. I can eat three times in a day; I am not hungry but I am not as comfortable as I would love to be. However, the book has not ended, so let’s see what happens. Music has got me more fame than fortune.” He also revealed that he wasn’t bothered about not receiving any nominations at the Hip Hop World awards, saying he only wants to make good music. “I don’t feel bad that I was not nominated in the Lyricist on the Roll category during this year’s Headies because even the sun and moon rotate the time they are meant to. I don’t do music with awards in mind; I just try and make good albums. I don’t mind if I am not nominated again for the next Headies because I was getting tired of being nominated for the lyricist on the roll category year in year out. I am even happy that I was not nominated.”

OFFICIAL VIDEO : Modenine – Dobale ft. Gentle

Astute rapper and lyricist, Modenine releases the visuals to Dobale which features budding act, Gentle. This comes exactly a year after the audio was premiered. Modenine definitely is on a silent coaster trip, only time can reveal how far he’s traversed the length of the rap game.
