A Kenyan fan who supports Liverpool was stabbed to death at Makutano Shopping Centre in Meru town by an agitated Arsenal counterpart after they allegedly disagreed over the outcome of Saturday's English Premier League match played at Anfield.Liverpool won the game after racing into a 4-0 lead after just 20 minutes.
The local police chief for the north eastern region of Meru, Tom Odera, told Reporters "the assailant and the deceased had a bitter argument over the match".He continued: "The assailant, David Mwangi, drew out a knife and stabbed Anthony Mutethia."
It is not the first time a football related dispute in Africa has grabbed headlines.
A Manchester United follower in the capital of Nairobi last year committed suicide after his team lost to Newcastle.Meanwhile, in 2009, an Arsenal fan hanged himself after the Londoners lost to United in the second leg of a Champions League semi-final game. And in May 2012, an Arsenal fan, Suleiman Alfonso Omondi, 29, committed suicide after his team lost. His body was found dangling from a rope in his house in the Pipeline Estate, Nairobi, while on September 9, 2011, another Arsenal die hard was stabbed to death by a Blackburn Rovers supporter during an argument in Kapkatet, Nandi North after the Gunners lost 4-3 to Blackburn in a league match.
"We encourage people to be football fans as a hobby but taking fanaticism into football is discouraged," said Odera.PLEASE DON'T TAKE IT TOO PERSONAL.
