‘There is no better way to reward these deserving artists where they are not only appreciated by their country, but also celebrated on a platform aligned with international brands. The honour of receiving this prestigious award in their country, that is recognized on an international level, is one of the many things Smooth Promotions aims to achieve with this years organization of The Headies’, CEO of Smooth Promotions, Ayo Animashaun says.
Last year, the award show was hosted by Mavin Records acts Tiwa Savage and Dr SID. Hip-Hop artists Olamide and Phyno dominated the show, winning multiple awards. The Headies introduced a new category – Best Alternative Song - won by rapper Black Magic. Meanwhile, organisers are now accepting materials for nominations. Only music released between July 2013 and June 2014 qualify for entry. The process opened on July 22, 2014 and closes August 30, 2014 The first edition of The Headies was held in 2006.
