Official: Manchester United sign Di Maria,becomes most expensive EPL signing

Manchester United have completed the signing of Real Madrid ace Angel Di Maria, who becomes the most expensive signing in Premier League history. The Argentina international, who can play across the frontline and in midfield, moves to Old Trafford in a deal worth £59.7 million - which will reach £65m including add-ons - and is now the fifth-costliest player ever. The 26-year-old, whom United hope can galvanise a squad who have picked up just a single point from their opening two league matches, has signed a five-year contract worth close to the £300,000-per-week earned by skipper Wayne Rooney. Accounting for wages, add-ons, bonuses and signing-on fees, the total cost of the deal could rise to as much as £150m.

Angel Di Maria said: "I am absolutely delighted to be joining Manchester United. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in Spain and there were a lot of clubs interested in me, but United is the only club that I would have left Real Madrid for. He is an excellent addition to the team."
