Late Doctor Ameyo Stella Adadevoh has been honoured with an award from the Rotary Club of Abuja-Metro, Rotary International District 9125 in recognition of her bravery. Dr. Adadevoh died of Ebola on August 19, 2014 after ensuring the confinement of infected Liberian-American, Patrick Sawyer who brought the disease into Nigeria. The award was announced on Thursday, October 2 by the newly elected President of the group, Rotn Dr. Biodun Olusesi who said that the late doctor had made a huge sacrifice in defence of Nigeria, The Guardian reports. Olusesi said:
"It is not unusual to award a posthumous award when it is well deserved in the case of Adadevoh. She is a physician to the core and she wasn't ready to bend, and that saved the large number of people from contracting Ebola.”
The Nigerian Federal Government, through presidential aide, Doyin Okupe, stated that it could not give a posthumous National Honour to Dr. Adadevoh because the governing law does not make allowance for such an award.
