The Confederation of African Football (CAF), have unveiled the nominees for the 2014 African Player of the Year and the 2014 African Player of the Year (Based in Africa) in the Glo-Caf Awards.
There are 25 players in the race to win the African Player of the Year, while 20 players have been shortlisted for the Player of the Year (Based in Africa).Nigeria’s duo of Vincent Enyeama and Ahmed Musa make the 25-man list, while Ejike Uzoenyi is included in the Africa-based Player of the Year.
Manchester City midfielder Yaya Touré is one of five Premier League
players who have been nominated for the Condeferation of African
Football’s player of the year award.
Touré, who won the award for third time in succession last year, is joined by Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor, Wilfried Bony of Swansea, the Crystal Palace winger Yannick Bolasie and Southampton’s Sadio Mané on the 25-man list.
Four Algeria players – Islam Slimani (Sporting Lisbon), Raïs M’Bolhi (Philadelphia Union), Sofiane Feghouli (Valencia) and Yacine Brahimi (Porto) – are also included after their excellent showing at the World Cup in Brazil where Algeria were beaten by eventual champions Germany in the last-16 after extra time.
The murdered South Africa captain Senzo Meyiwa is one of 20 nominees for the African player of the year award for players still based in Africa. The 27-year-old Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper was shot dead at a house near Johannesburg. A suspect was arrested on 31 October.
