A five-man robbery gang that attacked Onazi’s dad at the midfielder’s home in Jos was arrested in Lagos by men of the police. The robbers- Kingsley David, Ebuka Ugochukwu, Joseph Ozo and Ali Audu- were paraded before newsmen on Thursday, September 15 when they confessed to their crimes and also explained why they robbed the home of the Nigeria international.According to Punch, the robbers were arrested by men attached to the Ilemba Hausa Police Division at Shibiri Hotel in the Ajangbadi area where they lodged after the robbery. They were reportedly arrested around 7pm while waiting for a buyer for the Toyota Highlander SUV they took from Onazi’s house in GRA, Jos.

David who is the leader of the gang lived closed to Onazi’s house and was the one that initiated the plans to his friends. “Our intention was just to take his car for the Sallah break. I didn’t follow them into the house. I only pointed the place to them and they finished the job. It was after they were done that I joined them in the vehicle,” the 24-year-old told Pulse. Another member of the gang, Ugochukwu, said they chose to rob Onazi’s father because he does not help people. “He gave us N5,000. We also stole his vehicle. We didn’t touch him because of his advanced age; if we had touched him, he could have died,” the 26-year-old said. The robbery suspects were arrested along with a certain Osita Eze who was negotiating to buy the stolen car. Eze, however, denied negotiating, saying that he was caught while visiting the robbers at the hotel. The suspects are set to be handed to the Plateau State Police Command before they will be charged.
