Emmanuel Adebayor has been granted compassionate leave by Tottenham to return to Togo to sort out family issues following worrying social media posts by the player(read here).
It is the second time this season that Spurs have given the striker compassionate leave.
The decision means Adebayor is excused from training this week and will miss the final game of the season against Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday, as well as the post-season tour to Malaysia and Sydney.
The player has been embroiled for many months in troubled relationships with relatives in his home country and has taken to his Facebook and Twitter accounts with a string of posts in a bid to put his side of the story to counter allegations by family members. It is understood Tottenham want to sell Adebayor this summer but are more immediately concerned about his mental well-being. The 31-year-old has scored twice in 17 appearances for the club this season. He still has a year left on his contract at Tottenham and his £100,000-a-week wages may prove a costly stumbling block as Spurs try to find another club willing to sign him.
